Description

$500+gst per day with metabo vacuum.

Spalling brick and sandstone doesn't fail because of surface damage. It fails because the salt causing the damage is still inside the wall.

Pressure washing moves it. Acid treatments damage the substrate around it. Sealers trap it below the surface and accelerate the destruction. None of them remove it.

BluVac is a controlled vacuum-extraction system that draws salt out of masonry from within — reducing salt content to below 0.07%, which is below the erosive spalling threshold. That's the number that matters. Below that level, active crystallisation damage stops.

Used by government heritage departments across Australia — including conservation works on heritage buildings in The Rocks, Sydney, and masonry structures in Parramatta. When irreplaceable sandstone and heritage brick is involved, this is the system specified.

Why other methods fail on heritage masonry:

Pressure and steam systems dilute surface salt but force residual salt deeper into the substrate — it re-emerges. Chemical treatments risk acid damage to already-fragile brick faces and mortar joints. Surface sealers are the worst outcome — salt accumulates just below the sealed layer, crystallises, and peels the surface off in sheets.

BluVac uses no pressure, no acid, no heat. It works with the physics of capillary action — the same mechanism that moved the salt in — to draw it back out.

Performance validated by independent laboratory testing.

What it treats:

  • Spalling and crumbling brick
  • Spalling sandstone
  • Heritage masonry with active efflorescence
  • Salt-damaged besser block and stone features

What it doesn't treat:

  • Efflorescence in tiled surfaces (different problem, different solution)
  • Salts that have already caused full substrate disintegration
  • Walls with active rising damp still present — damp source must be treated first

Important before booking: Salt type and concentration testing is recommended prior to treatment. Some salt types cannot be extracted regardless of method — testing confirms suitability and establishes before/after comparison data. We can arrange testing as part of the hire consultation.
